Damaging a tree has cost a construction company and its director more than £4,000.

The tree in a conservation area was damaged during the build of a new development at Inner Hey, off Carrs Road, Marsden.

Mark Norcliffe as director of the company, and MCN Construction Limited, was charged under The Town and Country Planning Act 1990. The two offences included damaging and lopping the tree which was in the Marsden Conservation Area.

As a condition of the planning permission the tree should have had protective fencing. This requirement was not met.

Mr Norcliffe was ordered to pay a total of £1,900 including costs. The company was ordered to pay a total of £2,230, including costs.
