IT was a Sunday lunch with a difference when 70 people from the Longley and Lowerhouses community took part in a national event.

Longley Community Sports Club was the venue for the Big Lunch.

The event is part of a national project organised by Cornwall’s Eden Project aimed at getting people to know their neighbours and help people feel less isolated within their communities.

People from Longley Road and Lowerhouses Lane were invited to the event and brought a variety of savoury dishes and puddings for everyone to share and enjoy.

Local businesses also provided support along with the local church, community police, Little Angels day Nursery and Cummins Turbochargers which provided a community grant to buy paper plates, drinks, and print leaflets.

Ward councillor Julie Stewart-Turner officially opened the event.

“The whole community got really involved and it was fantastic success,” said organiser Nancy Roberts.
