A POLITICIAN has welcomed a report on all-postal voting.

Yorkshire Euro-MP and constitutional expert Richard Corbett welcomed the Electoral Commission's report on all-postal voting in the recent European Union and local elections. He said: "The report made a number of very useful observations about the all-postal voting trial in Yorkshire.

"Most significant was that all-postal voting increased turnout and voter participation exactly as everyone hoped.

"As for the teething problems, the commission re-emphasised that it finds no evidence that postal voting increases fraud and that those difficulties which did arise were perfectly solveable.

"That is exactly what we would hope for from an electoral experiment," said Labour's Mr Corbett.

All-postal voting was held for the Kirklees elections in June.
