A MOTORYCLIST died after a rush-hour tragedy in Lockwood this morning.

The man, who has not been named, was killed on Meltham Road at 8.20am.

The motorcyclist, who was riding a blue Suzuki, is believed to have been involved in an incident with a 17-tonne Pink Link distribution lorry near the entrance to Park Valley Mills.

Ambulance crews attended but the man was declared dead at the scene.

The normally bumper-to- bumper road was eerily quiet after police closed it off to start their inquiries.

The biker's body was covered with a white sheet as shocked commuters, who had been using public transport, passed by on foot.

Metham Road was closed off at Lockwood traffic lights.

One shocked passer-by said: "It's a terrible thing.

"The police closed the road but we walked past the body. It is a real tragedy and some people were very upset at what they saw.

"It is the last thing you expect to see and my heart goes out to the biker's family."

Three cars crashed into each other on the same road just minutes after the fatal accident.

The vehicles collided near Big Valley Garage in Lockwood.

Police and ambulances attended the crash at 8.44am.

No-one was seriously hurt in the accident.

Police have now started investigations into the crash which claimed the life of the motorcyclist.
