A MOTORCYCLIST died after he was hit by another vehicle moments after he had been thrown from his bike, an inquest heard.

Colin Gordon George Daye, 34, of Sycamore Avenue, Golcar, had left home at 5.45am on Friday, July 2, to travel to work in Barnsley.

He was riding his 1000cc Yamaha motorbike along the main road at West Bretton, near the Yorkshire Sculpture Park, when the machine suddenly locked up.

Mr Daye landed on the wrong side of the road and was hit by a Mitsubishi Pajero 4x4 travelling in the opposite direction.

Paramedics pronounced Mr Daye dead at the scene of the accident at 6.30am.

A post-mortem found the cause of death to be from multiple injuries consistent with a road accident.

West Yorkshire coroner David Hinchliffe adjourned the Wakefield inquest, pending further inquiries.

Police are appealing for anyone with information or who saw the collision or either of the vehicles being driven before the accident to phone them on 01924 293746.
