HE is bravely battling an aggressive form of cancer.

Now an 18-month-old Huddersfield baby with cancer is about to get support from a bunch of hairy (and not so hairy) bikers.

Brave little Oliver Field, from Huddersfield, has neuroblastoma, a very aggressive cancer of the nervous system.

He’s currently undergoing the very best treatment the UK has to offer and has already endured intense chemotherapy, surgery, radiotherapy and more.

But if this does not work, his parents face the daunting prospect of having to take him abroad for treatment to give him the best chance of life.

His family have set up an appeal to make that possible, should the worst happen and a bunch of bikers are to help.

On hearing about Oliver’s plight, the Aire Valley Harley Owners Group decided to donate all the profits from their annual rally to his appeal, and now, they’re inviting other bikers from across the region – and beyond – to help too.

The 10th HOG on the Humber rally is at Brantingham Park near Hull from June 29 to July 1. As well as being a rally for riders of any kind of motorbike, it also raises money for children’s charities every year.

Anyone with a bike is welcome to come along to the family-friendly event. The £20 rally ticket includes free camping, three bands, other entertainment and two rideouts, including a mass ride across the Humber Bridge.

Last year, around 500 bikes took part.

Dorothy Mitchelmore, who has organised HOG on the Humber with her husband Rob for the last 10 years, said: “Oliver’s appeal was suggested by one of our members, who happens to work with Oliver’s mum, Laura.

“Every year, we try to choose a cause where we can make a real difference to a child in Yorkshire.

“Oliver’s appeal was an obvious choice because of the connections and because we knew that anything we did would help his family at what is such a difficult time.

“Bikers are a very generous, warm-hearted bunch with a strong sense of community and family. We just want to raise as much money as we can to help Oliver and his family because there but for the grace of God go any one of us.”

Oliver’s mum Laura said: “We didn’t know anything about the rally so were really surprised and pleased to hear that Aire Valley HOG have chosen to support Oliver’s Appeal this way.

“Oliver and his brother Sam had a great time looking at all the fantastic bikes at the Leeds Harley Dealership this weekend, where we met up with the organisers.

“It’s going to be amazing to see even more at the rally and on the ride across the Humber Bridge.

“I hope as many people as possible will buy tickets and take part – they’ll have a great time and will really help Oliver in the process.”
