A TOP councillor has outlined his priorities for the year.

Clr Martyn Bolt, Kirklees Cabinet’s member for transport and green services, is to concentrate on controversial fortnightly bin collections.

He said: “The key issue this year is recycling. We need to roll out the waste collection services effectively and good communication with householders is the key.”

The new policy sees green bins collected every two weeks rather than every four and grey bins fortnightly rather than weekly.

The new system is being expanded out across Kirklees in phases, with Kirkburton the latest area to join in.

Clr Bolt said he would also concentrate on encouraging people to install wind turbines and solar panels.

He outlined his priorities to the council’s Overview and Scrutiny Panel for Safer Stronger Communities.
