A SPORTS club has applied for a 2am licence every night.

But neighbours of Birchencliffe Cricket and Athletic Club need not worry about late night noise as the club only plan to use the licence for occasional functions.

Chairman Phil Armitage says the Halifax Road club has applied because it is more expensive to buy one-off temporary late licences.

He said: “It’s actually a cost-cutting exercise.

“It costs £20 to £24 for a temporary bar extension licence.

“We have a couple of functions and birthdays but I don’t think it’s even once a month. Our next function isn’t until September 18.”

The application will be considered by Kirklees Council’s licensing panel.
