A MAN has appeared in court after stealing a bicycle from a schoolboy.
Ashley Craddock, of Halifax Road, Birchencliffe, appeared before Kirklees magistrates yesterday and admitted stealing the bicycle, worth £110, from the 13-year-old on April 10.
Alex Bosman, prosecuting, said that the boy had left it on the pavement outside KFC on Westbourne Road at Marsh.
While the boy was in a shop Craddock picked up the bicycle and rode away on it.
A few days later he made arrangements to sell it on Facebook for £40.
He was stopped by police as he waited with it near to Lindley Clock Tower.
Craddock, 21, said in interview that his original intention was to keep the bicycle before he arranged for a friend to buy it.
Craddock added that the theft was “silly” and he fully regretted his actions.
Magistrates heard that he is currently subject to a community order with supervision.
They gave him a conditional discharge for 18 months.
