CAMPAIGNERS battling proposals for seven wind turbines are pinning their hopes on the humble twite. The small brown bird is one of England's rarest and one of its main breeding areas is on the site at Denshaw Moor in Saddleworth. Parish councillor Ken Hulme said construction work would ruin a fragile habitat. He said: "Almost everybody is in favour of developing more clean and renewable energy, but it would be crazy to destroy rare and important habitats and wipe out endangered bird life in the process."
