A COUPLE who met when they both worked at a Lockwood chemists celebrated their golden wedding anniversary on Friday.

Alan and June Atkinson met at the National Co-operative Chemists when June was just 15 and married at Hillhouse Congregational Church.

They have lived in Birkby since they were married and at their present home in Lynndale Avenue since 1966.

Both are involved in Moldgreen United Reformed Church where they have attended for 20 years.

They have a son and daughter and three grandchildren and celebrated with a family meal at the weekend.

Mr Atkinson, 77, was a manager at Thornton and Ross in Linthwaite for 33 years. Mrs Atkinson, 68 had several jobs including a lunchtime supervisor at Birkby Junior School.

Mr Atkinson is a lifelong supporter and a season ticket holder for Huddersfield Giants. Mrs Atkinson knits jackets and hats for premature babies in the Special Care Baby Unit. Both love musical theatre.

They have asked for donations in lieu of gifts for the West Yorkshire Forget Me Not Trust.
