A BLAZE partially destroyed the roof of a five-bedroom house in Birkby.
Huddersfield and Elland fire crews were called to Inglewood Avenue at 11pm on Friday night after the fire broke out in a first floor bedroom.
Huddersfield Watch Commander Chris Bell said: “We had concerns regarding the roof collapsing but in order to check for occupants we tasked six firefighters inside with hose reels. They then established no one was inside.
“We had a large jet on the roof and it held.
“This was a very nasty incident and fortunately the occupants were not at home when the blaze broke out.”
The blaze is not thought to be suspicious.
