A MAN who left a dog trapped alone on a balcony appeared before magistrates yesterday.

Mohammed Naseem, 29, of Sufton Street, Birkby, left a black and white Staffordshire bull terrier on a balcony of a 13th floor flat for two days in July 2008, Huddersfield Magistrates heard.

Andrew Davidson, prosecuting for the RSPCA, said the dog was kept in a space measuring about one by two metres with only water. He said the balcony was covered in dog mess when the RSPCA arrived.

Arshad Khan, for Naseem, said the dog, who was unharmed in the incident, had otherwise been well kept.

Naseem, who admitted neglect, was given a conditional discharge plus £250 costs.
