A BIRKBY man who used the details of a generous householder to set up a fraudulent loan account has been given six months to save up and repay the money.

Bradford Crown Court heard yesterday how Ashley Gledhill, 25, had been allowed to stay rent-free for about four months at the Halifax home of a man suffering from depression.

But several months after he moved out the householder, who by then had also moved, received a letter from a credit management company saying he owed £550.

Gledhill, of Norman Road, Birkby, was suspected of being responsible for the loan.

Inquiries revealed that in October, 2009, he had used the householder’s name and address to set up an account at the Money Shop in Halifax town centre.

Gledhill pleaded guilty to two charges of fraud and Recorder David Bradshaw said he was going defer sentence on him for six months.

“When you come back in six months’ time I expect you to have £550 ready to repay back to the loan company,” said Recorder Bradshaw.

The judge said he was going to keep an eye on Gledhill and told him to keep working, keep out of trouble and keep off drugs.

Gledhill was told if he complied with the terms of the deferred sentence the judge would consider an alternative sentence to prison in June next year.
