A BIRKBY man has appeared in court charged with importing 20 stun guns from China.

Raheed Ahmed, 18, of Norman Road, Birkby appeared before magistrates, sitting in Huddersfield yesterday, accused of importing prohibited or restricted goods.

Stun guns – which can deliver between 50,000 and 1 million volts – momentarily disable a person with an electric shock.

Ahmed is also charged with possession of a CS gas canister and a quantity of Class B drugs.

The court heard a package addressed to the defendant was intercepted by Border Agency officials and enquires made.

Prosecutor Peter Byrne said it was the Crown’s case that importing 20 prohibited weapons would indicate an ‘onward supply’.
