A BIRKBY man drowned after suffering an epileptic fit while in the bath, an inquest heard.

Amanpreet Singh Dhillon, 32, of Clay Butts, was discovered in the bath at his home by his mother on November 19 last year.

An off-duty doctor who was nearby performed first-aid but Mr Dhillon sadly died at the scene.

An inquest sitting in Huddersfield yesterday heard how Mr Dhillon had suffered from epilepsy since 2007 after having meningitis.

He had been signed off work by his GP since October 22 and had a weakness in his left side.

The court heard how earlier that day Mr Dhillon had spoken to his girlfriend but when she couldn’t get a reply later that evening she phoned his mum to alert her and she discovered him at home.

Toxicology results showed Mr Dhillon had not taken his prescribed epilepsy medication at the time of his death.

Assistant Deputy Coroner Tim Ratcliffe recorded a narrative verdict that Mr Dhillon suffered an epileptic fit while in the bath and as a result drowned in the bath water.

He expressed the court’s sympathy to the family.
