A young man paid a heavy price for taking his parents’ car for a spin when he wrote off two cars.

Andrew Willox, 24, of Grange Avenue, Birkby, appeared at Kirklees Magistrates’ Court accused of aggravated vehicle taking and failing to stop after a road accident.

He was also charged with driving without the appropriate licence and without third party insurance.

He pleaded guilty to all four charges which occurred at Birkby Lodge Road, Birkby, on March 25 at a previous hearing.

The defendant was given a community order for 12 months by the bench with a rehabilitation requirement of 15 days activity.

He was also ordered to carry out 180 hours unpaid work and was given a 9pm-6am curfew for eight weeks. He must also pay £145 in court costs within two months.
