A SPECIAL service will be held to celebrate the 182nd anniversary of St Stephen’s Parish Church Lindley, on September 2.
The service (11.15am), led by Bishop of Wakefield Stephen Platten, will also launch a fundraising campaign to repair and enhance the church on Lidget Street.
St Stephen’s has so far secured £50,000 (from English Heritage) of the £230,000 the church needs for repairs.
The church was consecrated on September 1, 1830 by the Archbishop of York.
St Stephen’s also hosts lunches for the elderly, Guides, a carer and children’s group, exercise classes, Sure Start sessions, concerts and other events.
