A BLACK history exhibition was staged Huddersfield this weekend.

A range of events, including poetry, dance and music workshops took place across the town.

And French hip hop group La Cedille, from Huddersfield's twin town Besancon, also joined in the fun.

One of the centres for the exhibition was the New Testament Church of God, on Great Northern Street.

Inside there was artwork from across the community and a range of other stalls.

And on Saturday evening it played host to a spectacular Gospel concert.

Orlando Brown, from Waterloo, is part of the co-ordinating team.

Speaking about the events Mr Brown said: "It's important because a lot of people in Huddersfield or Kirklees, they don't know much about black history."

He said there were a lot of myths and this exhibition offered an interesting historical insight.

He added: "It's about your roots and where you belong and what you can do in the community that you are living in."
