Black ice was so bad in the Wellhouse area even a Kirklees gritter came to grief.
The lorry skidded on black ice at 6am on Saturday morning and smashed into a wall.
The driver was unhurt in the accident at the junction of Share Hill and Lower Wellhouse Road.
Examiner reader Tim O’Connor’s home overlooks the scene and he took these photographs of the recovery operation which lasted until after 9am.
He said: “The gritter demolished a stone retaining wall and the rear wheels were left hanging in mid air. The road was closed for three hours while the vehicle was recovered.”
The gritter was freed by mechanics from Mirfield-based Teales Recovery Specialists.
