Kirklees councillors do not have any views on a housing plan their Calderdale counterparts are due to consider.

Huddersfield Planning Committee was asked to comment on a proposed housing development at the former Blackley Brickworks site in Elland.

While outside of the borough, the proximity to Ainley Top and new houses at Lindley Moor is a factor as the brickworks site is just off the M62 Junction 24 sliproad.

As part of the Town and Country Planning Order, neighbouring Calderdale has asked for the views of the Huddersfield Committee as it’s of “significant interest” to both authorities.

House builder Harron Homes want consent for 84 houses on the brickworks site, a reduction from the 120 that has planning consent from Calderdale. The authority is yet to determine the new application.

Harron Homes is the same company as that building new housing at nearby Lindley Moor and the house types are expected to be the same.

The brickworks is the former home of the Wilkinsons Brickworks and was built in 1894 and closed in 1985 and was left to become run down and eventually stripped of much of its materials.
