BLAKEBOROUGH Social Club in Brighouse, which has been closed for almost two years, has reopened.
The club at Bradford Road has been riven by a bitter dispute going back several years between rival members following plans to sell a separate bowling club.
Andy Taylor, former subscriptions secretary, who has been the driving force in getting the club back on its feet, said he was delighted beer was finally flowing through its pumps again.
Since a decisive court victory over the bowling club faction in October he had faced an uphill battle with utility companies to get the electricity, gas and water switched on again and beer supplied.
He said: “Around 120 people came in on Saturday and it was great to see everyone again. We had a raffle, a buffet and a singer. The only thing that didn’t work was the microphone.”
An official opening party will be held this Saturday at noon.
Mr Taylor said the club would definitely open over the weekend, but regular opening hours had not as yet been clarified.
New membership cards would be printed over the next fortnight and an AGM would be held as soon as possible.
