FIREFIGHTERS called in an aerial platform to tackle a mill fire in Cleckheaton.

The fire was spotted in the roof space at the derelict mill at Serpentine Road at 4.15pm yesterday.

Watch commander Richard Hodgson from Cleckheaton fire station said: “The roof was quite high so we called in an aerial platform from Bradford which poured water from above while crews also tackled it from below with a jet of water.

“There was evidence of someone lighting a fire inside the mill and we think embers must have gone up and set fire to the roof.’’

The incident was also attended by firefighters from Odsal.
