A MAN who died in a blaze at his home has been identified.

Christopher Thornton was rescued from his back-to-back house at Acre Street in Lindley early yesterday morning.

But he was pronounced dead outside despite first aid attempts by firefighters to save him.

Coroner's officers have now appealed for help to try to trace Mr Thornton's relatives.

Mr Thornton, 54, did not work and had lived in the house for around eight years.

There are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the fire in the living room and kitchen.

Neighbours raised the alarm at 8am and a smoke detector was sounding at the house when crews arrived.

Coroner's officer Gordon Hughes said: "His mother was called Marian and Mr Thornton is believed to have four sisters, Geraldine, Maureen, Kathleen and Diane.

"We would urge them to come forward and contact us."
