A DRIVE is being held in Kirkheaton to try and encourage people to sign up as blood donors.

As howling winds and heavy rain put people off going outside – the NHS is concerned about the depleting number of blood donations.

Hospitals need blood supplies in January just as much as at any other time of the year.

Darren Bowen, NHS blood and transplant donor relations manager for Yorkshire, said: “Lots of people are warm to the idea of giving blood but may get put off by the cold weather around this time of the year.

“However, we can guarantee them a warm welcome and a hot cup of tea at all of our sessions – plus the satisfaction of knowing that they are helping sick and injured people in local hospitals with each and every donation they make.”

To donate blood visit the United Church, Kirkheaton, between 2pm – 4pm or between 5pm – 7.30pm on Tuesday, January 10.
