BOY band Blue will announce the McAlpine Stadium's new name live on stage when they play in Huddersfield.

A 10-year deal has been signed with a major name, stadium bosses have revealed.

But the identity is being kept under wraps until Blue's stadium concert on July 31.

A crowd of tens of thousands will be present when the closely-guarded secret is finally unveiled.

The name switch will conclude a hunt launched as the decade-long sponsorship by builders Alfred McAlpine neared its end.

Kirklees Stadium Development chief executive Ralph Rimmer said: "We are using the concert to celebrate both 10 years of the stadium and its rebranding.

"It's going to be a huge party for us and we want as many people as possible to join us."

Mr Rimmer said he was delighted to land the new backer.

Stadium officials will mount an immediate campaign to get the new name known across the UK.

As well as being home for Town and the Giants, it has become noted in the sporting world for rugby internationals - both league and union.

Mr Rimmer said: "Alfred McAlpine have been fantastic and have helped establish the venue as one of the finest in the north of England.

"There is no doubt that it has become recognised worldwide."

He said getting the new name established would be one of the most pressing issues facing stadium staff.

Mr Rimmer said: "Blue have agreed to announce the new name.

"It's a fantastic showcase for it to be launched."

The name switch could be a wrench for fans used to talking about the McAlpine.

It will mean road signs having to be changed and, possibly, a new name for unofficial Town fans' website, Down at the Mac.

Mr Rimmer said tickets for the Blue concert were going well, but there were still some left.

Girls Aloud and Darius are also appearing on the bill.
