A JUDO instructor is marking the 10th anniversary of his liver transplant with an appeal for more organ donors.

Bob Wilson, 79, is so happy to be alive and kicking that he wants more people to donate organs in the event of their untimely death.

He said: "Why take them with you when people are crying out for them?'

Bob, of Blacker Road, Birkby, underwent the operation at St James' Hospital, Leeds.

Without it he would almost certainly have died.

The success of the operation means that he can still teach the martial art judo twice a week in Linthwaite.

He was one of the oldest people to receive a transplant but may have been assisted by his healthy lifestyle, as he neither smoked nor drank alcohol prior to his operation.

Bob is a former engineer at Hopkinson's Valves, of Birkby.

He expects to celebrate the anniversary of his operation on Wednesday with a family meal, together with his wife and two daughters.
