Police are appealing for witnesses after the body of an elderly man was found in Holmfirth last night.
Officers are investigating the unexplained death of the 75-year-old at Royds Avenue, New Mill.
Paramedics were called to the house after the man’s body was found outside his home by a relative and his neighbour.
He was taken to hospital where it was later confirmed he had died.
Police say they want to speak to anyone who was in the area who may have information about the man’s death.
Det Chief Insp Mark Swift, of West Yorkshire’s Homicide and Major Enquiry Team, said: “Police are conducting enquiries into this man’s death today, and we are treating the matter as an unexplained death.
“A post mortem will be carried out to confirm a cause of death but as it is currently unexplained and the man’s body was found in the open, we are appealing for witnesses.
“I would like to speak to anyone who was in the area of Royds Avenue, New Mill between 9pm and 9.30pm and may have seen the man or have any information at all.”
Anyone with information should contact HMET on 101 referencing police log 1838 of February 24.
