A BODY has been found on the bleak moors at Holme Moss.

The gruesome find was made last night by four Huddersfield teenagers on a camping trip.

Now police have sealed off a section of the moors near the television transmitting mast to conduct a detailed investigation.

It is believed the youths, aged between 17 and 19 and from Newsome and Taylor Hill, stumbled across the remains shortly before 9.30pm.

The body was on moorland close to the car park near the transmitter, little over a mile above Holme village and off the A6024 Woodhead Road.

Police who were called to the scene cordoned off a stretch of moorland and the car park and a forensics tent was erected over the remains.

Weather conditions were appalling and detailed inquiries were not expected to start until this morning.

A police spokesman said that forensic experts and detectives were at the scene.

Officers are checking on missing persons and as yet have given no indication whether or not the death is being treated as suspicious.
