POLICE sealed off a Huddersfield bank after a body was found in the foyer early today.

Detectives were called after the body of a 23-year-old man was discovered inside the HSBC Bank on Cloth Hall Street at 6.30am.

Paramedics certified the man dead in the foyer. Scenes of crime officers carried out a detailed examination of the scene which was sealed off until around 9am.

Detectives are probing the possibility the death may be drugs-related.

The bank has a foyer which people can access at night to use cash machines. Police inquiries have revealed that the man was seen in the foyer at around 9pm last night when he was thought to be begging from people going in and out.

The bank has an automated locking system which stops people going into the foyer at 10.30pm - but customers inside can still leave.

Det Insp Ian Devey, of Huddersfield CID, said the body had been taken to Huddersfield Royal Infirmary where a post-mortem was being carried out today.

"The coroner's officer has been informed and there are no suspicious circumstances," he said.

A spokesman for the bank said: "This is clearly a tragic event and we have fully co-operated with the emergency services.
