The body of a man discovered in woods has been identified as Polish national Marcin Siarczylski.

Mr Siarczylski’s body was found in a wooded area near Low Mill Lane, Ravensthorpe, on March 14.

Police have informed his next of kin.

The 37-year-old’s death is being treated as unexplained and police are keen to speak to anyone who can provide information about Mr Siarczylski's general lifestyle or movements prior to his death.

Det Chief Insp Mark Swift, of West Yorkshire Police’s Homicide and Major Enquiry Team, said: “From what we know so far, Mr Siarczlyski had been living in the UK for the last 12 years and, as of July 2014, was living in Huddersfield Road in Halifax.

“We are keen to hear from any friends, colleagues or associates of Mr Siarczlyski who may be able to help us paint a picture of his lifestyle as we continue to investigate the circumstances leading up to his death.”

It had previously been thought that the body could have been that of Damion Vernon, 32, from Bridlington .

Mr Siarczylski's body was the first of several bodies to be found in rivers and near canals within 10 miles of each other.

The body of Hamza Amer, 19, from Batley , was discoved on March 17 in a canal at Vine Street, Hillhouse.

On Good Friday, 77-year-old George Bass, who had vanished from a residential home in Harrogate , was pulled from the Calder and Hebble Navigation Canal at Thornhill Lees close to a bridge. He later died in hospital.

And on March 27, the body of Daniel France, from Dewsbury , was found in the Calder, off Sands Lane, Dewsbury.

Police have said the deaths are not linked.
