CONMEN are using roadworks as an excuse to try and claim more victims.

Yorkshire Water has confirmed they have had several reports of bogus officials trying to trick householders.

In each case, the criminals have claimed to be water workers to trick their way into homes.

The company today started a major roadworks scheme in Halifax Road, Birchencliffe, and urged people not allow any workmen into their homes.

Spokesman Matt Thompson said: “Although residents may see increased activity, under no circumstances will company representatives ask for money for any work being carried out.

“Whilst this work is underway, residents should ask for identification from anyone claiming to be associated with this work.

“If in doubt, please contact Yorkshire Water on 0845 1 24 24 24, genuine employees won’t mind waiting whilst their identity is verified.”
