THE Labour Party HQs in Huddersfield and the Colne Valley are up to let - or are they?
Passers-by might be forgiven for thinking the Labour Party has given up in the town and is packing its bags, but a closer look confirms the signs are bogus.
The notices on the offices - in Cross Church Street, in the town centre, and New Street, in Slaithwaite - went up last night and claim to have been placed there by Felix Estate Agents.
The reason the notice gives for the offices becoming empty is `Redundant due to excessive spin and deception'.
Barry Sheerman, who has been the MP for Huddersfield since 1979 and is battling for another term, said he was taking the signs as a joke.
"You have to have a sense of humour about these things," he said.
"But when I left the offices last night we were definitely not planning on moving out - in fact we are planing on sticking around in Huddersfield for a good deal longer.
"It is a joke, but I do take exception to the accusation of spin and the personal attacks on Tony Blair.
"If you take education then it is clear we have delivered on the promises of the last election.
"When it comes down to it the concept of `spin' cannot be substantiated."
Mr Sheerman confirmed that other offices in Yorkshire had been targeted by the rogue estate agents.
