BOGUS workmen targeted a Kirkheaton woman and asked for money for clearing rubbish.

Two men visited her home on Moorside Road at 10am on Wednesday and claimed they were doing work for the council.

They asked for cash and the 56-year-old woman gave them £5 but asked them to leave when they demanded more.

However, they returned yesterday with another man who broke into a drawer while she was distracted by the other two men. Police say they made off empty-handed.

Witnesses said the men arrived in a blue Transit van with ‘Wooler’ on the side. They were all white, aged in their late 30s or early 40s and one spoke with an Irish accent.
