YOUNG brass band musicians are appealing for people to donate instruments to them.

The Clifton and Lightcliffe Learners Band is booming with 10 young members and a further 13 wanting to join.

But band organisers haven’t got enough instruments for them all to learn and play.

They are now appealing for people to donate any unwanted brass instruments.

Tutor Alan Jazwinski is teaching many of the youngsters the basics of brass at Scholes Junior School, where his waiting list is growing.

Band Secretary Jane Clay said: “Alan currently has 13 more children wanting to play an instrument.

“We do not have enough to go around so we are appealing to you to have a look in your cupboards, under the bed and anywhere where you may have a cornet, tenor horn or trombone tucked away and would like it to go to a child wishing to learn.”

The Clifton and Lightcliffe bands boast a senior and junior section. The learners’ section is for children aged from six to nine-years-old wanting to join a brass band.

Classes take place in Bailiff Bridge each Sunday morning from 9.30am.
