Bonfire night celebrations lit up the night for thousands of revellers in the town.

They and lucky passersby were left captivated by dozens of professional fire works displays which made the skies sparkle.

Huddersfield Christian Fellowship hosted one of the biggest events of the night, which was attended by around 4,000 people who watched fireworks shoot up from behind Cathedral House on St Thomas’ Road and enjoyed a funfair and food stalls.

The fifth time that the event has run in the town, it was described as the “biggest yet” by one of the organisers, Marcus Woolcock, who worked with around 200 volunteers on the night.

He said: “This year we decided to set off the fireworks from behind the house so that we had more room in the adjoining car park to allow more rides and people to come along.

“Tickets cost £2.50 which was used to cover the cost of the display and to go to putting on next year’s event.

“It would be great to have had a bonfire but I don’t think it’s something we can do.”

Golcar Cricket Club also brought the community together at its second ever event.

Talented artist Tom Senior created a massive Guy Fawkes effigy, which was burned atop the bonfire before a fireworks display.

Club chairman Paul Wegrzyn, said: “It was a brilliant night and hundreds came down.

“We’ll likely have another next year as it will fall on a Saturday and it’s a great community event.”

Other displays were held at Birdsedge and the Royal Oak in Linthwaite among others.
