TODDLE along to the library is the new catchphrase for Calderdale Council.

They are campaigning to get parents to enrol their toddlers, babies and young children in the Born to Read mobile library tour.

The mobile library will be appearing at supermarkets, childrens’ centres, toddler gyms and other locations during March.

Every parent that borrows at least one book receives a free T-shirt. The smallest say “Read to me,” the larger shirts have the message “Let’s read together.”

Lynne Hacket, education, schools and children’s service manager at the council, said: “Studies have shown over and over again that what happens in the home makes a real difference to children’s later achievement.

“Education matters, but mothers and carers who read to their children, play rhyming games, sing songs, talk with their children and take them to the library can compensate for lack of qualifications.

“Learn to love stories and words and share joy and time in a book”.
