THREE people - a couple who own a shop and a member of staff - sold alcohol to a boy of 14, a court heard.

Stephen Brier, 53, and Elizabeth Hardcastle, 54, of Blagden Lane, Newsome, are the licence holders of The Little Shop in Marsden Lane, Marsden.

They appeared before Huddersfield magistrates yesterday alongside Nicola Tolson, 32, of Marsden Lane, charged with selling intoxicating liquor to a person under 18.

The couple, who were not represented by a solicitor, were also charged with not displaying licensee details outside the shop.

The charges were brought by West Yorkshire Trading Standards, who carried out a sting operation in the area last August 22.

Brier and Hardcastle pleaded guilty to not displaying the correct details but not guilty to serving the boy. Tolson pleaded guilty to her one charge.

The case was adjourned to allow them to seek independent legal advice. They will be heard again at the court on February 22.
