A TEENAGE boy was killed in an accident which closed down part of the M1 motorway near Wakefield early this morning.
The 15-year-old, from Wakefield, was killed when he went on to the motorway on foot at Junction 39 near Durkar, north of the Woolley Edge services, at about 12.20am.
He was struck by a Vauxhall Astra and a Mazda MX5.
Both cars were travelling on the northbound carriageway, which was closed until about 6.20am today.
West Yorkshire Police Motorway Unit are appealing for witnesses to the incident.
Officers believe the teenager was with another male, aged 17, from Wakefield.
He was uninjured and will be questioned by police today.
Police are also appealing for people to come forward if they saw two youths on the north bound hard shoulder of the motorway before the collision.
