A nine-year-old boy was rushed to hospital after he was struck by a digger in Ravensthorpe.

The boy, who has not been named, was involved in the collision on the A644 Huddersfield Road shortly before 4pm today.

The boy suffered head injuries and bruising to his leg.

Yorkshire Air Ambulance was called to the scene but the young victim was taken to Leeds General Infirmary by road.

Huddersfield Road was closed in both directions for a time with police diverting traffic into North Road. There were long tailbacks as a result.

A spokesman for West Yorkshire Police said it was believed the boy was not seriously injured.
