Detectives revealed this morning that they were called to an address on Sawrey Place yesterday afternoon at 3.41pm following reports of a man being found with serious injuries.

The man, who is believed to be in his 40s, was pronounced dead at the scene.

While making further enquiries at the same address, a woman with serious injuries was found.

The woman, who is also believed to be in her 40s, was also pronounced dead at the scene.

Police believe the deaths are linked and are treating both as suspicious.

A 37-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in custody today.

Senior Investigating Officer, Detective Chief Inspector Jim Dunkerley, said: "Enquiries into this incident are still at an early stage, and I would like anyone who heard or saw anything suspicious in the Sawrey Place area late on Saturday night or into the early hours of Sunday to come forward.

"Neighbourhood Policing Teams are conducting reassurance patrols and enquiries are ongoing by detectives to both identify the victims and further clarify the circumstances of the incident."

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Protective Services (Crime) Department on 101 or anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
