A MAN has appeared in court following a police crackdown on burglaries.

Curtis Nelson, 18, was before Huddersfield magistrates yesterday.

He is accused of burgling two properties in the Bradley area on January 9 and 15.

Carole Lawford, prosecuting, said one of the homes targeted belonged to a vulnerable woman in her 70s.

She said that items taken from the house included irreplaceable war medals.

Nelson, of Alandale Road in Bradley, also faces a charge of malicious wounding.

He is alleged to have assaulted the mother of his two young children on New Year’s Day, breaking her leg.

Nelson denies the burglary and assault allegations.

Magistrates agreed that the case should be dealt with by a crown court.

They remanded Nelson in custody, but he will initially remain in police cells for further inquiries into other matters to take place.

Nelson’s arrest came as part of a police investigation into burglaries in the area.

The six-week operation began on Monday following more than 100 burglaries in the Bradley, Sheepridge and Deighton areas.
