Hairdresser Gary Pearce has been judged top of the crops!

The 32-year-old Bradley man was named Britain’s best men’s hairdresser at the Britain’s Best Awards run by the National Hairdressers Federation.

Gary, who owns the aptly-named Gary Pearce Award Winning Hair at Wakefield Road, Waterloo, impressed an international panel of judges, which included X Factor hairstylist Jamie Stevens.

He was among 24 top stylists from across the country vying for the title of best senior men’s hairdresser at the competition staged at the Hilton Metropole at Birmingham’s NEC.

The competitors had to work with two models to create a long-haired style and a short-haired look – working in front of judges from the UK, Belgium, Denmark and Finland as well as a live audience.

After the first stage, Gary was in fourth place – but snatched the title with an impressive display in the second part of the challenge.

He said: “In the first part, I left myself with too much time and I overdid the style a bit,” he said. “In the second half I was working under more pressure and I seem to do better that way.”

Gary said: “I’ve won just over 80 competitions at national and international levels, but I hadn’t entered any events for quite some time before I decided to enter the South West Championships at Weston-super-Mare earlier this year.”

Gary, who has previously worked at hair salons in Brighouse, Folly Hall and Leeds, is already setting his sights on more silverware in 2014.

“The next one is the Lancashire Championships in February,” he said. “Then in March it’s the Finnish Open Cup at Helsinki. I definitely want to compete in that”.
