BRADLEY residents have been left confused after their bin day was changed – without anyone telling them.

Kathleen Brien and residents of Lower Quarry Road were surprised when their bins were not emptied last Tuesday.

Every Tuesday they alternate between black bins and the green and glass recycling bins.

During a phone call to the council they discovered their new bin day was Thursday, so residents put their black bins out again last Thursday.

But the glass and recycling collection lorry arrived and, seeing all the black bins, left.

A second phone call to the council saw the refuse wagon return last Friday, but despite two further calls Kathleen says they’ve no idea which bin to put out or what day to do it.

She said: “Firstly, why change the collection day without telling us? Secondly, why change the colour and not tell us?

“I’ve phoned four times and been told someone would call me back within 24 hours and tell me what has happening, but no-one has.

“I don’t blame the people I speak to – it’s someone else who isn’t calling back, but what’s going on?”

Due to lack of information, residents put their bins out again yesterday, but they remained unemptied.

A letter then arrived through the post telling them to “ignore” a letter dated October 22 because it contained “inaccurate information.”

Kathleen says they never received a letter on that date.

The Kirklees Council website shows the residents collection day is still Tuesday.

A spokesman for Kirklees Council said: “Arrangements for Lower Quarry Road have been altered with collections moving from Tuesday to Thursday.

“We apologise for any confusion during the period of change and we wrote to local residents on Monday to confirm the new arrangements.

“The change was needed so that a different, smaller vehicle can be used on this route, allowing for better access.”
