NORMALLY it’s too many Scouts and not enough voluntary leaders.

But at Bradley Scouts it’s the opposite.

The 41st Huddersfield North group, which meet at St Thomas’s Church, off Bradley Road, are looking for new boys and girls.

The club has sections for Beavers (ages six to eight), Cubs (eight to 10-and-a-half) and Scouts (10-and-a-half to 14).

But while the club has plenty of leaders it has only one-third its capacity of members.

The group, whose activities include camping, fire-lighting, pioneering, canoeing, crafts and IT skills, meets every Thursday from 5.45pm (for Beavers) to 8pm (for Scouts).

Jenny Farrell said: “We’re lucky to have a strong leadership team so we’re good to go with lots of young people.

“It’s unusual because normally it’s the other way round.

“It’s a chance for young people to come out and do something different and develop themselves in as many different ways as possible.

“It’s also a chance to meet people from outside the area.

“We’re a very active group and we offer something different to people.

“The quality of programme has dramatically improved over the last couple of years.”
