BRAVE Ben Warby abseiled 200ft to raise money for Kidney Research.

Thirteen-year-old Ben took part in the event down Baitings Dam, near Ripponden.

His parents, Debra and James, of Manchester Road, Linthwaite, featured in the Examiner last week after James gave Debra his left kidney.

She was having kidney dialysis three times a week.

Ben, who goes to Colne Valley High School, said: "I was a bit scared when I went over the edge, but it was all right after that.

"I've done it before while on holiday in Wales. I had a good look round and it was a lovely day," he added.

Ben, along with family friends Alison Whittam and Paul Sykes, who also completed the event, raised a total of about £1,000 for the charity.

Debra, 37, was born with an inherited condition called Alport's Syndrome, which causes the kidneys to fail.

She has two sons, Ben and Luke, 11, and her condition started to deteriorate after having them.

Then, 10 weeks ago, doctors found James was a tissue match.

The couple had the operation at St James's Hospital, Leeds, on February 11.
