BATTLING Jack Midwood will be centre of attention at the McAlpine Stadium tonight - two weeks after beating the deadliest form of meningitis.

Jack, nine, of Jagger Lane, Honley, was invited to act as mascot for Huddersfield Town's friendly with Sunderland after the club read about his fight against meningococcal septicaemia in the Examiner.

His mum Michelle, 37, said: "He's really looking forward to it.

"It's going to be a tremendous thing for him to go on to the pitch in front of the crowd."

Jack, a pupil at Honley Junior School, fell ill on July 8, hours after returning from a holiday in Tenerife with his dad Chris, 39, mum and elder sister Hayley, 15.

Paramedics noticed a tell-tale rash on her son's neck. Their actions helped save his life said Michelle.

Tonight Jack and his family will report to the players' entrance at 6.45pm and will meet the players.

Jack will run out with Town just before the kick-off as his proud parents and sister watch from their seats.
