A MAN has raised almost £1,500 by a charity abseil.

John Dyson, who is battling liver cancer, raised £1,411 for Macmillan Cancer Relief.

He dropped 200ft at Baitings Dam, near Ripponden.

John, of Mountjoy Road, Edgerton, said: "The worst bit was actually climbing over the edge."

Rose Tipton, a fundraiser for the Calderdale and Huddersfield Macmillan Appeal, said: "It was superb. We were astounded at the number of people who sent anonymous cheques to support John following an article in the Examiner."
