A brave shopworker fought off two men armed with a knife.

The 61-year-old was behind the counter at the Nandhara Stores in Almondbury Bank, Moldgreen, when the robbers struck on Monday afternoon.

One of them had a large kitchen knife and tried to grab the till, but the man in the store resisted.

He grappled with the man before the two thugs fled empty-handed.

Det Insp Ian Thornes, of Huddersfield CID, said:”He wasn’t hurt but was shaken up.

“We would appeal to anyone who was close to the shop in Almondbury Bank about 12.40pm on Monday, when the incident happened, to come forward.

“They may have seen people loitering around outside or running away”.

One man was in his late 20s, white and of stocky build, with a grey hat and scarf and a dark jacket.

The second wore a grey hooded top.
