Breast cancer patients took the catwalk by storm at an annual fashion show – watched by hundreds of cheering friends and family.

The event was the 10th fashion show organised by the breast care nurses at the Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust.

The team stage the event annually as part of Pink Month for the patients who are undergoing or have undergone treatment.

This year the models strutting their stuff at the Cedar Court Hotel, Ainley Top, ranged from 30-year-old Lynzi Carroll, of Crosland Moor, to 80-year-old Shirley Kerrigan from Lindley.

Opening the show, advanced nurse practitioner Veronica Allinson, said: “ Our models have taken to the catwalk likes ducks to water. They have been through some scary times recently, but they all say this is the scariest.

”Thank you for supporting them. We have 32 amazing ladies here.”

The models included Marcia Cox, 44, of Rawthorpe, who had a double mastectomy after losing her mum to breast cancer. Marcia underwent treatment after finding a lump herself. Her daughter Sianne, 25, and pal Jennifer Lee were in the audience to cheer her on.

Marcia said: “It has been a tremendous experience. It shows there is life after going through something like this. It is glamorous and being glamorous has kept me going.

“I’ve had heels, full make-up and eye lashes on throughout my chemotherapy. If I felt fabulous it meant I was giving positive vibes out and that’s how I wanted people to see me.”

To mark the 10th anniversary, the nurses were given their own special slot on the cat walk accompanied by the male models.

The fashions were supplied by a range of local shops and the show was hosted by model agency boss Bernadette Gledhill.

Make-up and hair was by make-up students at Calderdale College.

Student Amani Cann said: “ I love being here making these beautiful women look even more beautiful.”
